Grandview Point

Grandview Point is one of the many viewpoints on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Fortunately, this is easily accessible by bus or by car. As the name would imply, Grandview Point has an expansive view of the Grand Canyon. Although it is known for sunrise or sunset photos, there is also a bit of history here. It seems that somewhere here, copper deposits were discovered. This was in the late 1800s. A trail was built called the Grandview Trail which goes all the way to the mine. The ore was then hauled back by mule. The mine wasn’t very successful though, since it wasn’t profitable. Eventually it closed down and the mines have been off limits to visitors because of danger of collapse.

I was on my way out of the Grand Canyon when I saw a sign for the Grandview Point, with a name like that, the view better be good. I didn’t have a chance to get any sunset or sunrise photos since I need to keep moving towards my destination which is still two hours away. There is ample parking for cars here and it seems that not too many people make it here. At least nothing compared to the number of visitors I saw at the Grand Canyon visitor center. Like a lot of the view points here, it is not fenced and there is real danger of falling if you are careless. Always be alert on where you are stepping and make sure to not always stare at the grand view that is before you.
