By the time I got back to Paris from Fontainebleau, it was already dark. It was just as well because I was already hungry. I didn’t get to have lunch that day because I was too busy trying to figure out how to get to Fontainebleau. I didn’t have time to eat at Fontainbleau either because I was busy taking photos. I would just think that this is my chance to lose a little weight. I think I have lost some weight because of all the walking I have been doing this trip. Additionally, these walks have been oftentimes with a heavy backpack. I think this is all good exercise for me since I haven’t been the most active person even before the pandemic.

For now, I need to find a place to eat. I thought that Eiffel Tower area would be a good place to find a place to eat. I am aware that French cuisine is one of the famous cuisines in the world, surely, it would be easy to randomly find a good place to eat here. I got stung by what I believe is an artificially inflated ranking of a restaurant just a couple of days ago. I would try to see what I get from just chance. This brings me to a place called Le Companella. It is a restaurant on the opposite side of the River Seine. I am not familiar with this area at all and all I can use for a landmark is the Eiffel Tower. Looking at the menu, it is a French restaurant and there were quite a few customers eating. I take it as a good sign that locals would come to eat here.

I have been eating regional French food recently and I think I would like to try the standard fare this time. Duck is always a favorite of mine and I ordered something a cooked a little differently – Magret de Canard. Here the duck is prepared much like how steak is prepared. The duck breast is seared until it is cooked to your preferred level of doneness. I like mine medium rare. What came out was something almost indistinguishable from steak. The breast meat was seared dark that it looks like some kind of steak. Slicing it would reveal a pink and juicy meat that again, it not that different from steak. I was very glad that I got to try this. I never had duck meat prepared like this before. I think I got lucky with Le Campanella since it looks to be a popular place. Customers were coming and going and I was very happy with my food. This time, I am not in a hurry to get back to the hotel. I’m pretty sure that the trains would still be running by the time I finish.
