Mather Point

View of the Grand Canyon South Rim

View of the Grand Canyon South Rim

While it wasn’t as hot at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon as it is at the canyon floor, it was still rapidly getting warmer by the minute. I thought that I should make the most of the time and quickly head to the visitor center. I never made it to the visitor center. As I was approaching the visitor center building I saw a sign for Mather Point. Apparently, that is the main view point here at the South Rim. There are numerous other viewpoints around the area but this would be the one nearest the visitor center. I couldn’t resist and I absolutely had to go to the view point immediately.

Magnificent View of the Grand Canyon

What I saw was an incredible sight. It was the classic view of the Grand Canyon that I have seen in books and television. There were all sorts of colors here – red, orange, pink, green, blue. It was only now that I realized just how high up I really was. The canyon floor can be seen but it is far, far below. Essentially, the South Rim is just a ridge along the Grand Canyon. It is a very expansive canyon system but this is probably the most well known part of the system. As you might expect, there are viewing points here. There is no shortage of places to take photos from because the place is just that big. Mather Point gives visitors a chance to see several named landmarks which can be seen from the view point.
