I enjoyed my visit to Hoover Dam but that is just one stop on my way out of the state of Nevada. I couldn’t really linger that long there since I still have a long drive ahead of me. An hour ago, I just landed at Las Vegas airport and I got a car to bring me around. Fortunately, it was all highway here and there weren’t as many vehicles on the road so there wasn’t a lot of pressure. I thought that the roads were in good condition considering that it passes through the desert. Maybe I just imagined that the roads would have been overrun by sand but this wasn’t the case at all.

It was really easy driving all the way. I had Google Maps downloaded ahead of time to make sure that I have maps even as I drive through the desert where I assume won’t have any mobile signal. Even if that was the case, the roads were all signposted and you can tell where to go just by following the signs. It wasn’t difficult to figure out either. Ironically, the more built up areas would be more confusing because there would be other options to follow.

I kept my eye on the outside temperature since it was already extremely hot at Hoover Dam, I don’t want to have to endure more of that for the rest of the trip. I drove three and a half hours from Hoover Dam to the city of Flagstaff where I would be spending the night. I was concerned that I would be too tired from the flight, the heat, the driving and the additional time I gained from changing time zones. Surprisingly, I was okay the whole time and I eventually made it to Flagstaff. I noticed that it is much greener here and the weather is much more pleasant, which is a welcome change from the hellish weather at Hoover Dam.

Flagstaff is on a plateau which explains why it is much cooler here. It is not surprising to see how much built up Flagstaff is since it is much more pleasant here. It was even cool enough to use a jacket but I didn’t need it yet. I booked a night at Travelers Inn in Flagstaff. It is a small inn outside the city center. I didn’t really expect much from it. It is built on a lot where all three sides have rooms built for visitors. The facilities are basic but they work. There is airconditioning in the room and I turned it on immediately. Annoyingly, the curtains weren’t designed with the aircon unit in mind and I has to set it such that the curtain doesn’t cover the aircon.

The shower was basic as well. It even reminds me of those third world accommodations I have been too. The fixtures weren’t really set right but they work, somewhat. I couldn’t completely turn the shower off and I felt guilty having it run all the time. This is a desert after all and water is very precious. Overall the place was nice and clean. Don’t expect too much from this, but I think most of the people who stay here only want a place to stay before the continue on. One thing which did annoy me was that people would just park wherever they want even if it isn’t their own unit. I had to park further out since someone took up the space right in front of my room. This is not the inn’s fault. I just thought people should know better.
