The Palais de Justice in Paris located at one of Paris’ oldest places. The Île de la Cité is an island on the River Seine and this is where the kings of France decided to build a palace. It is easy to defend, so it makes a great choice for a royal palace. It used to be where the royal courtroom was. These days it serves as the the court of appeals of Paris. While the Île de la Cité isn’t very large, there seems to be quite a bit to see here. Not too far away from the Palais de Justice gates, I stopped when I saw some tourists taking photos of something. I didn’t know if there was something here but when I saw what they were taking photographs of, I realized how I would have missed it.

Conciergerie in Paris

Conciergerie in Paris

the Tour de l’Horloge or the Clock Tower is one of the Paris’ oldest clocks. As the name implies, there is a tower here where the clock is installed. The tower itself is part of a massive building called the Conciergerie, which at one time, was a prison. The clock itself is installed above the street, so it was not surprising that I almost missed it. It would have been a shame if I did. The clock looks like it could have belonged inside a cathedral but while the design looks like it is hundreds of years old, the clock itself looks very brand new. This is no doubt due to the excellent maintenance that is done on it regularly. The clock is outdoors so it is constantly exposed to the elements. It is amazing that it has lasted this long.
