The Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg is certainly a very impressive piece of architecture. For one thing, it is extremely tall, currently ranking the sixth tallest church building in the world. It is so tall that you probably need binoculars to properly appreciate the details of the church, especially the ones near the top. This seems to be a very common theme of cathedrals here in France. One would try to outdo the other. Even the cathedral in Reims was unusually tall. The inside of the cathedral is also just as impressive. Gothic churches tend to be very elaborate inside and the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Strasbourg is no different.

Apart from the standard statues which usually decorate a gothic church. The cathedral also has tapestries on display. I remember these giant tapestries on display at royal palaces. Most recently, I have seen them at the Palace of Tau in Reims. I was surprised to see these also on display here. I think it is a nice change but I worry about the durability of these items, especially when they are constantly exposed to the air. Perhaps the people of the time know what they were doing. I don’t think the tapestries will still be here if they weren’t made very durable. After all, a king or an archbishop won’t be pleased if their expensive tapestry won’t even last a few years.
