I got back to Reims a bit too early for dinner, so I decided to go around the city. I didn’t know that the restaurants were serious about not being open until dinner time. I think there were open for drinks but not full blown dinner. I think that is something I need to get used to. I thought I would be able to get ahead of the crowd by going early but it seems like they follow the schedule. I imagine it might be tough to go out and have fun with 7pm being the earliest you can have dinner. The bus service stops at around nine in the evening so that only gives you two hours. I didn’t notice if they have a night bus service either, I suspect Reims doesn’t have one.

Anyway, I ended going to the Christmas market at the cathedral for a quick snack before just hanging out there while waiting for 7pm. It wasn’t really that far so I quickly made it back to the restaurant. Restaurant Cafe de la Paix seems to be a seafood restaurant. I don’t think I have been to a seafood restaurant in France before so I would be curious as to what kind of seafood they have here. I had their duck foie gras for starters, which I liked very much. I know eating foie gras can make you get tired of it very easily. This is why you need to eat it with the spices which comes with it. I ended up eating it with a lot of bread and getting full just from it.

For my mains, I had a fillet of turbot which turned out to be more substantial than I expected. This is the first time I had or even heard of turbot but apparently, it is some kind of flat fish. The fish was already filleted so there weren’t any bones. The fish was pan fried and I thought it was done very well. The fish came with some quinoa which was okay but it wasn’t anything special. Finally, I had dessert. I wasn’t sure what it was but I think it was some kind of chocolate cake. I had a little trouble finishing dessert because I was already full. At the same time, I was in a hurry too since I do not want to be eating too long lest I miss the last bus back to the hotel.

I had a great time eating at Restaurant Cafe de la Paix. I can see that there are a lot of regulars at this restaurant since the staff seems to know them. My only regret is not eating more than the uncle at the next table who seemed to have a bottomless pit for a stomach. The staff was very attentive to me, I just flash the thumbs up sign whenever they ask me how I was doing. They do understand English but won’t be so good at speaking it.
