It was getting late in the day, or maybe not that late, it was winter and the days are much shorter. This means that it gets dark much earlier. Even if I know that this happens, it still messed me up whenever this happens. I grew up in a place where sunrise and sunset times don’t change that much so this is a huge change for me. I was exploring the city of Reims as my first time in my journey around this region of France. So far, I have been enjoying the place and I got lucky with the weather as well as the skies were clear. I was told that this region is famously cloudy so I guess I was really lucky.

All the time I have been going around the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Reims, I have been carrying my large backpack, which by this time feels like it weighs twenty kilos. I also have a smaller backpack which isn’t that much lighter either. Basically, I wasn’t able to check in to a hotel because I do not have a room yet. I was thinking of going back to the hotel now that I think I was already done with my photos. By this time, the Reims city center is already very lively. There were a lot of people and it doesn’t feel like there is a raging pandemic. I made my way to bus stop where I board bus number 6 which goes to my hotel.

The Ibis Budget Reims Parc des Expositions is a hotel in the outskirts of Reims. I thought I can stay here since there is a bus service here which I can take to bring me to the city center. I was here earlier in the day unfortunately, there was just an automated kiosk which was controlling access the main door of the hotel. For whatever reason, it cannot provide me with a room at that time and I wasn’t able to go in. What’s worse, there were no humans around to help. I do not mind not having a room yet, but I would need a place to leave me backpack. In the end, I had to leave for the city center with the backpack. I am now back and I was able to successfully get a room. This time there were also people here.

The room I got was nice and spacious. It was only for me and the bed was more than enough for me. The room has the minimalist design to it which I like. The bedroom has a large screen television, which I probably won’t even use. More importantly for me, I could not find a socket which supports a UK plug. I really think that hotels should have universal sockets by default since it would be difficult for tourists if they happen to forget a converter like me. I would probably need to find one here, perhaps at a supermarket.

The bathroom of my suite was nice and clean, no surprises there. That is why I stay at Ibis Budget since they provide very good quality for a good price. There is breakfast served here. There aren’t any restaurants in the vicinity apart from the Hotel Mercure but I don’t think most people would be eating there. I never did eat breakfast there. Most of the time, I would run to the train station and get myself breakfast there.

I enjoyed my stay at Ibis Budget Reims Parce des Expositions. It is a pity that they chose to use a computer to control access the hotel. I think it works for best case scenarios, but if you run into trouble, then you are on your own. I hope that management would look into this to avoid frustrations in the future.
