Inside the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Kinsale

The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel is one of the major structures here in the town of Kinsale. It sits on a hill in the middle of town. The church itself is almost 700 years old despite it looking quite modern. I don’t know if the church has always looked this way, but the church has already undergone several renovations. The Carmelite friars were given a generous amount of land in what is now the middle town and the church is the most prominent structure here. The church appears to be large from the outside, so I was interested to see how it looks like inside.

Unfortunately, this was the time of pandemic and a lot of places were not open to the public. At the time of my visit, the church can be open but only for private prayer, this means, there is no public celebration of Holy Mass. The Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel was open for visits. However, you can only get through the first door. After you get in there is yet another door where the main congregation would be sitting. Unfortunately, this area is off limits for now. So this means, I can only take photos from the back. That said, I realize that the church wasn’t as large as I thought it would be. Considering how old the church is, I thought the church was a little bare.
