Bád Eddie

This wasn’t the first time I visited the village of Bunbeg. I was here before but I ended up going to the village pier. It was okay but I didn’t think It was that interesting. I didn’t know that I was missing something important here. It turns out that there a major beach here in the area called Magheraclogher. This appears to be another one of those large sandy beaches which seems to be very common in this region. I don’t know what is it in the area that makes it prone to such features but I was just thankful that it is. There is a beach here which fills up with the sea every day. Because of this, it is not surprising that a ship soon ran aground here. That ship’s name is Bád Eddie or Eddie’s Boat.

Bád Eddie is probably the most prominent “feature” you can see here at the beach. It is best to visit the wreck when the tide is low to make it easier to access. The ship wrecked around the 1970s and has been here ever since. You can see that the ship is already in a bad state and there have been several attempts to preserve it. With the constant exposure to the elements, it might not be long before nature takes it’s course. In the meantime, just come and appreciate the ruined beauty of this wreck.
