Inch Beach

Inch Beach at Inch Island

Inch Beach at Inch Island

In these days of pandemic, I treat every day that is not raining as something very precious. I would try to drive out just get away from the house after being limited to just two kilometers for several months. While people are indeed allowed to go elsewhere, I couldn’t really stay at a hotel even if I wanted to. Hotels and beds and breakfast are still off limits so I can only drive so far before coming back home. Sleeping in the car is not an option, not yet at least. This means I can only go where I can get back home within the day. This time around, I didn’t go that far out. I have seen signs to Inch Island, which is a small island in Donegal in the Lough Swilly. I thought I pay this place a visit.

Inch Island is easy enough to find. It is near where the border with Derry is and there are signs that point you to the island. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Along the way, you can also see swan and other waterfowl which would be plentiful here. Upon reaching the island, I decided to go around to explore the island. I heard there is a castle here so I think I need to go find it. Ultimately, I couldn’t find where the castle is, instead I ended up at one end of the island which is Inch Beach. It is not a drop dead gorgeous beach like other beaches in Donegal, I guess it is okay. There is a lot of seaweed here which ruins the scenery. It might help of they would help clear the seaweed to reveal the sand below but I think people here like to leave it the way it is. The seaweed doesn’t deter visitors and residents from enjoying the waters of the Lough Swilly. I can see there several vehicles parked here with family trying to enjoy their moment of freedom from the pandemic while it lasts.
