Rugged Landscape to the Secret Waterfall

Rock Layers on the Way to the Secret Waterfall

I was intrigued when I first heard of the existence of a “secret” waterfall. It first appeared in a photo online and the poster didn’t reveal where the location was. Based on some photos of the surrounding area, it was quickly located to be somewhere in Donegal. I think it would be a fun exercise to the reader to figure out where it is, that is if you don’t already know where it is. I had to pass by the spot a few times to make sure that it is the correct place. There are no signs here but the presence of a steady stream of people making their way down to the beach is a sure sign that I was on the right track.

The walk down the hill was unremarkable. Yes, the sea was impressive but I think it is the beach which took my breath away. It is not a white sand beach here, far from it. The shore is littered with huge rocks that make walking difficult. One needs to be careful here else stepping on an unstable rock would mean a sprained ankle. Depending on the time of the day you go, the rocks can also be wet because of the tide. My advise is to try to stay away from the water as you make your way to the waterfall. There is still quite a bit of beach to cover since I don’t see any waterfall nearby. I don’t think this would be an easy trek.
