Gap of Dunloe

Gap of Dunloe

While I was intending to visit the Gap of Dunloe here in Killarney, I wasn’t expecting to visit it so soon. I accidentally went to the gap itself as I was going through the Black Valley. Apparently, the gap opens up into the Black Valley or the Black Valley leads to the Gap of Dunloe depending on which way you are going. I ended up going up the mountain and eventually at the lookout point of the Gap of Dunloe. True enough, it is a small gap in between two mountains. The road isn’t as large as the other gaps I have seen but it is still possible to drive through it.

Driving Through the Gap of Dunloe

The road can be quite narrow here as they encourage more hiking here than driving. The road is mostly one lane only with a few spots for passing in case there are vehicles coming from the other direction. Since they basically pretty much require you to walk, there is little to no stopover points here. I was lucky since my car is small and it can easily pull over to the side without blocking anyone. It does make me feel bad to be driving here since everybody seems to be walking.
