Marrakesh Train Station

Outside the Marrakesh Railway Station

I have finally made it back to where I started – the city of Marrakesh. I flew into Marrakesh almost two weeks ago and passed through the city as I was making my way to the furthest extent of my trip and slowly made my way back to Marrakesh. The reason why I do this is that I would prefer that I would not travel so much when I am at the end of the trip. When I got out of Marrakesh the first time, I was on my way to Rabat. I took a train from the Marrakesh Train Station. I was so tired from traveling the entire day that I didn’t have any energy to take photos of the railway station. This time, it is different.

I have just gotten back from Casabalanca and I think I am still fresh as a daisy. Fortunately, the trains weren’t packed and it was easy to take photos here at the train station. I was actually surprised to see how small the train station of Marrakesh actually is. This is in comparison with the airport terminal-esque railway station of Casablanca. Marrakesh’s railway station is more modest, modern but still modest. The main facade oozes of Islamic design and it almost looks like a mosque. The entrance evokes the gates to ancient medinas which I have seen all over the country. There is a plaza outside the train station where people can wait. While there is a lot of traffic here, the vehicles seem to be constantly moving, which probably explains why there is no urgent need to be built a large railway station in the first place. If passengers can get to the train station easily, then people won’t need to go there early and find a place to wait.
