Lighthouse at the Breakwater of El Jadida

I was surprised that it was a possible to walk to the breakwater of El Jadida. It is a strip of land which helps protect the shore from the oncoming waves. The breakwater itself is protected by massive armor units made of concrete which makes sure it doesn’t itself wash away. The breakwater itself is rather bare. It would have expected a small park here but there isn’t much here. There are some stairs here where people would jump from for a swim. Others would be just sitting around and fishing for dinner. Life seems to go at a very slow pace here.

The armor units themselves are also frequented by seabirds. I wanted to take a photo of them but they were quite elusive. At the very end of the breakwater is a tiny lighthouse. It is basically a thick concrete pillar with a lamp on top. The lighthouse is painted green and white. There is an identical lighthouse in another breakwater opposite the one I was one. That one is painted red and white. I assume that they are painted different colors to help distinguish left from right. It seems to be nice to just hang out here. Indeed some people do just sit around. There was even someone grilling fish here. Obviously, you can never be relaxed enough here.
