Rabbit Tagine with Figs

Rabbit Tagine with Figs

I eventually gave in to the heavy rain that has been falling the entire morning. I thought that if I had lunch then maybe the rain would go away. It wasn’t meant to be. I ended up heading back to the Hotel Al Kalaa to dry myself up. My shoes and my jacket were soaked. I guess there is no helping it since this is the weather here. It was chilly up in these mountains so I was just so glad to be back in the hotel and turned up the heating. I spent the rest of the day in the hotel just catching up on stuff. As the sun was going down, I started to head out for dinner. I was asking for recommendations on where I should be eating. The owner recommended that I go to Restaurant Paloma which is owned by his friend.

He said that he doesn’t trust the other restaurants in the area since he had stomach problems when he tried the others. So Restaurant Paloma it is. The first thing I noticed about this place was how garish the lighting is. The actually have very nice Moroccan interiors but the lighting leaves much to be desired. I was poring through the menu looking for something I haven’t tried yet. Most menus would have tagine and couscous which seem to be the national dishes of Morocco. I went for the rabbit tagine with figs. I wasn’t my first time to eat rabbit but I do try any chance I get. The dish was underwhelming. The rabbit meat was okay but nothing fantastic. The most shocking part here is the actual head of rabbit which is served in the tagine itself. Obviously, this doesn’t affect me anymore and I ate everything with gusto. I even had guests at the table in the form of cats which seem to swarm the city. No doubt that these cats have been fed from the table way too often for them to be not afraid of humans.
