I was disappointed that I won’t be able to catch an earlier ride to the city of Tetouan. I was at the Tanger-Ville Train Station and I still have three hourse to spare. I was asking around where I would get a nice meal here in the area but I was told that there weren’t many choices. People recommended that I go to the old city or medina and have some lunch there. I liked the idea since the area around the train station seems to be a bit more upscale. There is even a shopping mall beside it. I caught a cab to the old medina. This is easier said than done since all cabs seem to be want to take you in. I had an idea of how much this would cost me but turns out that I didn’t even need to bargain.

The taxi I got was a shared taxi, this means that they would pick up anyone else who happened to be going the same way. I got used to this very quickly and didn’t mind as passengers would come and go. I was finally dropped at the old medina just as the rain started to pour. I had all my stuff with me so it was difficult to move around especially when it was raining. I didn’t really get to see much of the old medina. I just wanted to sit down and eat. I eventually found a place which serves local cuisine. Not really difficult especially in a medina.

The interiors of the restaurant were very Moroccan including nice Moroccan lamps that I have seen in other countries. Although it was already my second day here in Morocco, it would be my first time to eat proper Moroccan food here. I don’t think KFC counts as local. I went for some lamb couscous. I had reservations about having couscous since I always thought it was like tasteless rice. However, the real thing was actually very flavorful. My lamb couscous came like it was just scooped out of a pot. The vegetables were all stewed very nicely. If you dig in the couscous, you will find the lamb which was cooked to tender perfection. It was actually very nice and I thought that it was a very nice introduction to Moroccan cuisine for me. I knew Moroccan food was nice, but I didn’t know it would be even better than I expected. As for the restaurant, it looks like it is one which caters a lot to tourists. How do I know, there was a group of musicians playing traditional music in the restaurant. I don’t think you would have that these days unless you cater to tourists.
