Inside the Tanger-Ville Train Station

I was very happy with my ride on board Africa’s first bullet train. It was hard to imagine that a place like this would have something like that but that just goes to show how high the country is aiming for. For now, it only goes from Casablanca to Tangier in the north. I am currently at the northern end of the country still en route to my destination. I will be catching another train from Tangier to the city of Tetouan which isn’t very far from here. Unfortunately, the only trip left for the day is one which leaves three hours later. There is nothing I can do about that so I would just need to catch my breath and take it easy for now.

Fortunately, Tanger-Ville Train Station is a very nice train station. It seems to be quite typical of train stations in the large cities of Morocco. The one at Rabat was also quite nice. The Tanger-Ville Train Station feels a lot like a modern airport terminal. It has very high roofs which gives you a lot of breathing space. They even have trees inside here. There are numerous shops in the station as well. However, none of them really tickled my fancy. I was hoping that there would be something more local but most of them seemed to be fast food. At the center is the main waiting area. There is security to keep people from going to the platform area. If it isn’t time for your train, you can’t go to the platform. You also need to show them your ticket. This prevents unsavory people from hanging out at the platform area and causing problems to the passengers.
