Running Eagle Falls

It seems that there is always a lot of things to see here at Glacier National Park. I was at Two Medicine Lake which is not as popular as Lake McDonald but there was still some attractions here. On the way in, or in my case, out, of Two Medicine Lake there is a sign for Running Eagle Falls. From my research, Running Eagles Falls is one for the more accessible trails here in the park. It is also very short. It is not as short that you would hear the falls from the car park but you only need to walk not too far to get there.

Running Eagle Falls is named after a woman Blackfoot warrior who has accomplished a lot. The Blackfeet are a Native American tribe who live in this region. Running Eagle or Pitamakan as she is known had a number of successful raids for which she was given the name Running Eagle. This is significant because Running Eagle is a man’s name. She was the only member of the Blackfeet to be given a man’s name. This is a testament of how impressed her people were with her. The falls is obviously named after her. I don’t know if she ever had anything to do with this waterfalls but it is nice that features in the park would also be named after Native Americans.
