One of the main entry points into Glacier National Park in Montana is the village of West Glacier. The main entrance is actually just past the village and Lake McDonald would be right there. Just as you are pulling up to Lake McDonald, there is another village here called Apgar. There is a visitor center in the vicinity but I think the village is the most interesting part. There are several establishments here all catering to the tourist trade. This doesn’t feel like a village where people actually live in. There is a place where you can purchase your groceries. A lot of people would be coming to Glacier National Park for comping and doing outdoors stuff. Well, this is the place to get most of them. They even have bear spray here more on that later.

There is also a rather large inn called the Village Inn which sits right on the shores of Lake McDonald. I think this would have been a great place to stay since you get to see the lake early in the morning. It is also great since this place tends to have clear skies at night. It would be great for stargazing. There is also small diner here. I would probably end up eating here quite often since there aren’t too many eating places here. It was already past peak season and a lot of the restaurants have already closed for the season.
