I get why a lot of people go on vacations during summer, not only are the kids on school holiday, but the days are actually longer at least in the Northern Hemisphere. For me, this gives me a lot more time to go around places without being too worried about driving in the dark. I managed to complete my exploration of Achill Island in good time. Cathedral Rocks was my last stop before I continued on to the village of Keel which is the center of activity here in Achill. I was looking for a place to have dinner and I have already been to a few of them. I don’t really like repeating but in this case, there was no need to since there are still several to choose from.

I ended up at the Chalet Seafood Restaurant. I wanted to eat here the previous day but there was a event that night and the entire place was booked. This time around, there were still a lot of seats even though it was a weekend. The Chalet Seafood Restaurant seems to be well known for their smoked fish, so I had that for my starters. Smoking fish is a very traditional way of preparing fish. Somehow the fish gets even more saltier as it is smoked which gives it that smoky flavor. There were several samples of the smoked fish but I couldn’t remember what they were.

For my mains I went with pan fried fish. I must say, that I haven’t had this type of fish in years and I was glad I tried it. The fish were very easy to eat even if it was whole fish. The bones were easy to avoid but most of all, the meat was fresh and sweet. The fish itself wasn’t very large so they give you three of them. It wasn’t enough for my large appetite though but I had to limit it there. I can see why this place is popular. The food is excellent and the place is so large enough to host events.
