Old Church Ruins at Achill Sound

Just arriving here in Achill Sound already was giving me an idea of what to expect here at Achill Island. The island was looming over the horizon and you only need to cross a short bridge to get there. While it is still connected to civilization, it almost feels like one would be leaving it as soon as you cross the bridge. Achill is not as isolated as the other islands in Ireland owing to that bridge which connects it to the mainland, however, not a lot of people live in Achill and this probably would give a lot of unspoiled feeling to the island. Just across the hotel at Achill Sound I already have a clue as too what to expect.

There is the ruins of an old church here. The gate is closed but there is a sign here which says to keep the driveway open. I don’t see anyone coming here since the grass is already overgrown and it would appear that no one has been here in years. There is a lot of character to be seen in these kinds of places and Ireland has a lot of these places. There is also slightly more modern building which is actually a petrol station. The design of the building looks like it was built in the early 1900s. There are a set of fuel pumps here with analog displays. I don’t think I have seen those in a while and I am surprised to see that they are still in use to this day. I have a feeling that there would be more of these when I go to Achill Island. This is just a preparation for a journey back in time.
