National Theater of Taiwan 国家戏剧院

It wasn’t my first time visiting the island of Taiwan. I have been here many years before and that was actually my first time abroad. I had the fortune of going abroad at such a young age though I hardly remember anything about this place. What I do remember is Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall. I haven’t visited it yet but I am sure that it would be on my list. I was hoping to get better weather but it seems that I won’t be getting it. I finally decided to go down despite the rain. My first impression of this place was I didn’t realize that it was this large back then. I don’t know if the local government expanded it but it feels larger now.

Coming out of the metro station, the first structure to see here is the National Theater 国家戏剧院. This structure is one of a pair of identical structures. The one on the right when facing the memorial hall is the National Theater. I was very impressed with the design of the National Theater. It immediately brought to mind the palaces which I have seen at the Forbidden City in Beijing. The design is the same as traditional palaces and arguably built with the same scale as the old palaces. These days it is used as a theater and it is part of the Liberty Square 自由广场 complex.
