I was pleased to have found the bus which goes to the mountain village of Jiufen. This was my first time taking a bus in Taiwan and I was lucky that I didn’t get lost. It was difficult for me to find the bus stop but as long as you get on the bus you will know when to get off. The bus wound its way up the mountain and I wasn’t surprised to see that it was still raining. It hasn’t stopped at all so it seems that I would have another afternoon of wet exploration. Jiufen seemed to be quite busy with a lot of people going around. I don’t think I have heard of this place before but my friends insisted that I go.

The main attraction of Jiufen is the old street Jiufen Old Street 九份舊道. Old streets are quite common in Chinese cities and towns but this is the first time that I seen one in Taiwan. Perhaps there are others in the island but I first need to visit this one. What I noticed was that the old street is mostly covered. There roofs extend out and provide shelter to pedestrians. Just make sure you don’t walk in the middle since that is where the water would fall. As long as avoid these spots where the rainwater falls, I think I should have an easier time here.
