Going to Jiufen 九份

After a whole morning of walking in the incessant rain, I finally found the real Shifen Waterfall. While it is certainly no Niagara, it is still nothing to sneeze at. The waterfall was full because of the rain and I certainly got a soaking after admiring it from the observation deck. I walked back to the village of Shifen to catch my ride. There were taxis waiting for tourists who don’t want to walk back. There were a few who hired scooters and I thought it was an excellent way to get around. However, it really isn’t that far anyway. Anyone could have walked back within thirty minutes or less.

I caught the train going back to Ruifang 瑞芳, which seems to be a jumping off point for some interesting places. The next place I would be visiting is another mountain village called Jiufen 九份. However, there is no train which brings you to Jiufen. Instead, there is a bus. Now a bus would be much more difficult to figure out and I was hoping that there would be people who would be going there. In the end, there weren’t any. I had to walk in the town and find where the bus stop was. I found a bus stop near a school, Ruifang Industrial High School 新北市瑞芳區瑞芳高級工業職業學校. It turned out that went around the block and eventually ended up in front of the train station, so there is probably a stop there as well. Either way, the bus continued on to Jiufen, but another wet afternoon awaits.
