Soon after I arrived at the village of Shifen, I have already seen the train station for which the village is known for as well at the activities that go on on the train tracks. I was left thinking if this was it for Shifen. The village was smaller than I thought. Once you wander not too far from the train station, the crowds thin considerably. There is probably not much left to see here. I decided to give it a try and explore the rest of the village. There is a major river which runs through the village called the Keelung River. I was then surprised to see that they have a suspension bridge here.

The suspension bridge is separate from the concrete bridges which are built here for vehicular traffic. This bridge called the Jingandiao Bridge 静安吊桥 is built higher and also crosses the Keelung River. This is one appears to be an old bridge meant for pedestrian traffic. It is not a Golden Gate Bridge by any means but suspension bridges are still nice to look at. It seems that other tourists have also discovered the bridge and we taking their time taking selfies. I had to wait for them, so I was just admiring the bridge from the outside. While the bridge didn’t seem rickety, the posts didn’t seem to be that well maintained. It seems that it was just left there for dust to gather and just wait for the rain to wash it off. As a result, it looks dirty. Then again, it adds character to the bridge.
