Cloister of Jerónimos Monastery

The Jerónimos Monastery is one of the most well known landmarks in Portugal. It is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list and it shows. The facade of the moanstery has been whitewashed and it is very bright in the afternoon sun. I was a bit shocked to see how many tourists where out here. I probably got used to the small number of visitors in the places that I visited previously. Unsurprisingly, most of the visitors to Portugal would end up here some time or another. There was a queue to get in the monastery. I didn’t have the foresight to purchase tickets online and I was just hoping that the queue moves fast.

There are actually two main queues here, the first one is the one where most of the visitors would queue up in. The second one is actually a few doors down. The difference between the two queues is like heaven and earth. It was so different that when some people were coming up to say that the queue was much faster there, I didn’t believe it. I never did get to that other queue since I was afraid of losing my spot in the queue. It took my thirty minutes to get to the ticket booth and inside. They probably should put signs to indicate to visitors that there is another ticket booth just further down to help people wasting time queuing.
