Rooftop of the Cathedral of Évora

I found my way inside the cathedral of Évora. It is the largest and most prominent structure in the city, so it was rather difficult to miss it. It seems to be a trend that I am not very fond of. The cathedral was charging tickets to explore the inside. I would have imagined that it would be free since this was the house of God. Then again, with the numbers of churchgoers dwindling, and the number of tourists growing, I think they needed to make the decision to make money off the tourists to keep their finances afloat. This is the sad reality of churches in Europe and I don’t think it would go away anytime soon.

I got my ticket to the cathedral but instead of heading straight inside the cathedral, I was let upstairs all the way to the roof. I was surprised that the roof is accessible. This is probably the most interesting part of the cathedral anyway. There is a prominent tower whose design I can consider a fractal. The tower has mini towers which are replicas of itself complete with minitowers. The tower is certainly lovely to look at and it is amazing to be able to get very close to it. I noticed the tower from a viewpoint earlier but I never thought that it is possible to see the tower that close. There is a lot of space here on the roof. Most people would undoubtedly find themselves here. Fortunately, not everyone can do the walk to the roof. While it is not hard, it is still a fair amount of climbing. Visitors would surely be rewarded by great views especially of the church tower.
