Looking Out from the Rooftop of the Cathedral of Évora

The Cathedral of Évora is one of the largest and most prominent structures in the city. It is an interesting mixture of architectural styles which has elements of romanesque, gothic and Manueline styles all in one. I have yet to see the inside of the cathedral since I somehow managed to find my way to the roof top of the cathedral. The rooftop allows visitors to see the tower of the cathedral up close. I think the design is very attractive with the whole mini towers decorating the tower itself. However, I can’t shake the feeling that the design suits a castle more than a cathedral.

The cathedral is built on top of the highest point in Évora. So being on top of cathedral allows you unparalleled views of the surrounding area. Right away, I can see how small the city actually is. I was surprised to see how abruptly the city stops. It seems like they really take city planning to heart. What’s more, I can also see how dry the area is. There isn’t a lot of greenery here which makes me feel even more warm. On the other side of the cathedral you can see the main city square which I am sure I will visit later on in the day.
