Shipwreck at Kinnagoe Bay

Beach at Kinnagoe Bay

I was enjoying the view here at Kinnagoe Bay. It felt like I discovered a secret beach here in Inishowen. I don’t think I have heard my friends mention this place before and I was quite excited to be the one tell them about it for a change. The weather was great which lent to great photos of the beach here at Kinnagoe Bay. It is not that remote as I think it was, since there are a few houses nearby. I can see the allure of living near this place, though it might be far from everything else.

At the car park, there is a plaque which remembers ship which was wreck here in Kinnagoe Bay. The La Trinidad Valencera is part of the Spanish Armada but it was wrecked here in Kinnagoe Bay. The ship was part of a fleet which tried and failed to invade England. Unfortunately for them, the armada ran in to bad weather on the way back and one of them the La Trinidad Valencera sought shelter in Kinnagoe bay where it was damaged by rocks. After two days, it sank. The crew surrendered to the English because of lack of food and promise of fair treatment. The English however turned back on their word and killed the troops. The wreck was discovered in 1971 and it is now a favorite of fish in the area.
