Aranmore Lighthouse

The island of Aranmore is very rustic. In a lot of ways, it feels like it is stuck in time. Although there are no thatched cottages here like they did in the past, the island is so remote that it might as well be an ocean away. There aren’t a lot of people who live here, less than six hundred at the last count. It was good enough to have some 3G signal here but some parts don’t even receive it. I don’t know what is the case when it comes to fiber or wired broadband. I doubt the telecom companies would be care to build expensive infrastructure for sparsely populated areas.

This is probably what makes the place alluring. Sure I love to have high speed internet here but you also get amazing views. I would like to think that this is a nice place to live in but it is just too far away from the international airport that I won’t be able to travel that much. Anyway, I was exploring the cliffs here at Aranmore and I was impressed with the wildness of the place. I have seen other places like these cliffs but each time is different. Because of the jagged rocks in this area, there is a lighthouse built here. It is a typical white tower which rises up from a high point in the cliffs. I would have wanted to see the inside of the lighthouse but it didn’t seem to be open to visitors. Took a few pictures from the outside and continued on.
