I was surprised to know that I have only explored half of the historical area of Toulouse. I didn’t know that there was a whole river to cross for me to get there. One of the most significant structures here is the Chapel of Saint Joseph which was used by the hospital when the plague was ravaging the city. It was hard to imagine that this place was already modern and sophisticated enough to have a hospital even if it was more than five hundred years ago. Perhaps not a lot has changed since then.

I noticed that there were still other churches here and the one which stands out the most is the Saint Nicholas Church. Land seems to be quite scarce here so the church tended to be taller. The belltower rises above the rest of the city and can be seen from far away. This church didn’t have a lot of write up on it but it seemed that it was built in the 1300s. I guess it makes sense to have another church here for use by the people since the one at Saint Joseph might have been contaminated by the plague. The tower itself was said to be reconstructed in the image of the tower at the Basilica of Saint Sernin.
