Inside the Saint Nicolas Church in Toulouse

There was another prominent church here in the western bank of the Garonne in the city of Toulouse. The Saint Nicolas church’s bell tower soars above the city, making it easy to see. I don’t know how zoning works back in the middle ages but perhaps churches are exempted from these rules. This allows them to build higher than everyone else. It helps to project power, not to mention that the ringing of the bells would be much easier to hear. The church is dedicated to Saint Nicolas who is the patron saint of sailors, this was probably because Toulouse is prone to flooding of the Garonne.

I decided to go in the Saint Nicolas Church. It can’t remember how many churches I have entered during this trip but it seems to be a recurring theme. I have stopped being impressed with these church, unless they are really special, since I have seen so many of them this trip. Ths Saint Nicholas Church was not that special either. For one thing, at the time of my visit, entire altar area was under renovation. I can’t see much of it to be able to tell if the church was interesting or not. It had the usual decorations of a church. For something as old as this church, it sure didn’t feel like it was that old.
