One could divide the massive Cathedral Basilica of Saint Cecilia in Albi into two. The first part is the part which is freely open to all visitors, that include the altar area and the general worship area. The second part is separated from the rest of the church by a stone screen and the church charges an entrance fee for this. I used to think that charging for entry into a church is ridiculous, however with declining church goers and increasing numbers of tourists, I guess you can’t blame them for using tourists as a source of revenue for continued operation and maintenance of the church.

I decided to enter the paid section of the basilica. It seems that there is something important here which had to be charged for. I found out that there are numerous works of hard which are on display here. Much like the rest of the church it was still dark but the art works are illuminated by lights allowing visitors to see it more clearly. I wasn’t my first time seeing sacred works of art and I’m not really impressed when I see them anymore. It is not surprising that the church has accumulated so much art over the centuries. I would imagine that these accumulation of art has slowed down considerably in the past century considering the declining number of worshipers.
