Medieval City of Avignon at Night

It was New Year’s Eve when I visited the medieval city of Avignon. I was struck at how quiet it seemed to be. I wasn’t sure if people don’t really celebrate it much here but I was under the impression that there should have been a lot more people here compared to what I saw. I remember that there were police barricades entering the medieval town, so I thought it would be a very busy night, in fact it was the opposite. I understand the need for security, after all, France was the victim of several attacks. Fortunately, nothing untoward happened. It is unfortunate that a lot of these senseless attacks have been occurring, not just in France but also elsewhere.

In a way, this was good since there the city center won’t be that crowded so I would be able to take photos easier. I couldn’t tell if there was supposed to be an event that evening but I don’t see people pouring into the city center after ten in the evening. I was a bit sad that it wasn’t as lively as I thought it would be. I just head back to the hotel after taking a few photos of the city at night. It was my last night in Avignon but since there didn’t seem to be anything on for New Year’s Eve, I decided to sleep earlier.
