Palais des Papes at Night

I had a very busy day. I dedicated that day to explore the medieval city of Avignon since I have been spending most of my time away from the Avignon instead exploring the surrounding area. Fortunately, Avignon was explorable within a day. The Palais des Papes is no doubt the main attraction of the Avignon together with the other structures like the Pont d’Avignon. There are lot of other structures here but those two are probably the most important ones. I was rather desperate for dinner since it was New Year’s Eve and it was surprisingly difficult to find a place to have dinner. There were a handful that were open but they had marked up their prices accordingly.

After dinner, I did a bit of exploring even if I was already tired from all the walking I did that morning. The city was remarkably quiet. I was expecting a bit more people here since it was New Year’s Eve but it seems that people are not that big on New Year’s Eve gatherings here. The Palais des Papes was lit up almost ominously looming over the city of Avignon. The architecture of the building probably gave it that creepy appearance. That probably didn’t help attract more people here at night.
