Rue de la République in Lyon

Walking Down Rue de la République

A lot of the European cities I have visited put a premium on pedestrian traffic. There would be places in the city where vehicular traffic would be restricted or outright banned. This is to encourage more pedestrian foot traffic thereby helping local businesses. I enjoy these types of places since it feels like a stress-free way of exploring the city. These pedestrianized streets tend to be turned into shopping streets where there would be big name brands and shops setting up here. In Lyon, that place seems to be the Rue de la République. I accidentally ran into this streets while I was making my way back to the hotel.

As expected, the Rue de la République shopping street is one which is lined with fancy brand name shops. A lot of the shops sound familiar to me and none of them are cheap. I had no intention of buying anything here anyway since anything here would be probably beyond my budget. There is a nice little pond/fountain area where people get sit and relax. I enjoyed staying here and just observing people. I think it would have been nice to be here at night since the street will be lit up. I would have to see if I feel like coming back here tonight.
