Sanctuary at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

I had no idea that that Kalwaria Zebrzydowska was not that easy to explore. I was hoping this would be a more tourist friendly place but it seems that this place is too big to explore on foot. It is best explored by car of by bicycle. But I only have my two legs with me. There were no taxis to hire here to make it exploration faster. Anyway, I decided to walk all the way the main sight and see what I can do from there. A calvary is a place which seeks to replicate locations of the passion of Christ, much like the real Calvary where Jesus was crucified. It is usually set up on a hill where the pilgrim has to slowly walk their way up to the top of the hill. At the top of the hill is usually the sanctuary.

The sanctuary at Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a church with an attached monastery. It seems to be a rather fancy church even though it is not that big. I was told that this place gets busy when it is Easter but other than that it is quiet. It seems that I was the only person walking about here. The other visitors all had transportation of their own. The interior of the sanctuary is actually very impressive. The architecture of the church is decidedly Romanesque. The arches are all typical of this type of architecture. The ceiling is painted with various figures prominently featuring the Blessed Virgin Mary.
