Inside the Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Church in Owczary

I seemed to have a bit of luck this time around. The Protection of Our Most Holy Lady Church in Owczary was open for visitors so I hurriedly entered the place. It would be my first time to enter a non-Roman Catholic church, and certainly my first Greek Catholic Church. According to sources, the affiliation of this church is with the Ukraninan Greek Catholic Church. Given the proximity of Ukraine to this part of Poland, it is not a surprise that people follow this branch of Catholicism. Much like the other churches, this tserkva was also small which probably fits the needs of the local population.

The tserkva has two major sections. There was one where a just entering the church. It is probably where people would prepare before getting inside the main hall. This is protected by a heavy iron gate. As usual, much of the tserkva is made out of wood. interestingly, the doorway has words carved onto it. I would like to think that this is the work of the one who built the church but there was no way for me to verify it. There was someone in the church at the time but they didn’t seem to speak much English here. I was just happy taking photos of the interior of the main hall.
