Inside the Church of St. Joseph of the Visitationists

I was walking along what I probably one of Warsaw’s more well known streets. This street leads directly to the old town of Warsaw and it is lined with shops as well as historical buildings. Poland is an overwhelmingly Catholic country and it is not surprising to see a beautiful church every few blocks. I came across yet another church and this one is named the Church of St. Joseph of the Visitationists. That sounds like a mouthful, it is sometimes known as the Vistationist Church. It seems like there is an Order of the Visitaion of the Blessed Virgin Mary and it was for them that the church was built.

The church is a baroque church with a large plaza in front of it. It was completed in year 1761. It was surprised to know that it was a church where the great pianist Frederick Chopin played in church. I was expecting it to be very lavish inside but I found out that it wasn’t the crazy complicated type of design which is common in baroque churches. It is also quite surprising to see how baroque churches here in Warsaw tend to be painted in light colors. I normally see them as dark mysterious buildings which very beautiful interiors. Only the altar area seem to be befitting of its baroque nature as the rest of the interior seems to be subdued.
