Actually, I had higher hopes prior to visiting Baisha Old Town. I was under the impression that it was a baby Lijiang as these types of town tend of be similar to each other. I was rather surprised to see how sleepy the town was. The Baisha Murals were a huge letdown for me primarily because it was too dark to see anything when I visited and that I couldn’t take any photographs of the place. The old town of Baisha is just outside and it is practically a one street town. I was surprised to see the road paved as well given how sleepy it was.

The town itself is probably good enough for a 10 minute walk inside, there wasn’t anything interesting to see here aside from how a normal Chinese town would look like. No shops. No restaurants. No hotels. Apart from a few local women who asked me to take a photo of them in their native costume, it really doesn’t have anything touristy here. If you absolutely need to see the murals, you can take a quick look at the palace and head back to Lijiang soon after. Unforutnately for me, that would have to wait. A heavy thunderstorm happened and I had to wait it out before heading back to Lijiang.
