Going to the Perhentian Islands

Leaving The Kuala Besut Jetty

We finally boarded our speed boat which is heading to the Perhentian Islands off the coast of peninsular Malaysia. The island isn’t a very well known island so it was kind of off the tourist circuit, at least for foreigners. The more well known island resort here is Pulau Redang, which is a few hours away by speed boat. Most of our companions on the speed boat are locals with a sprinkling of westerners. My friend and I probably blend in as well since we were both Asian.

The speed boat isn’t exactly very large. Compared to the speed boat I took in Phuket, this seems to be much smaller and less powerful. Our boat can only handle around twenty people tops and it only has two engines. Our trip will be taking forty five minutes. By this time the afternoon sun was already very hot, fortunately there was shade on the speed boat. The salty air slams against our faces as we speed to our destination.
