After visiting Xidi Ancient Town, I decided against visiting the other ancient town which was supposed to be nearby. It took us around three hours to explore Xidi, I assume that it would take us another three hours to explore the other ancient town, which meant that we might have not have time to catch the last bus back to Tunxi. My Japanese companion and I boarded a bus back to Tunxi where I slept soundly until we reached the city. It was a bit early for dinner so I decided to head back to for a rest.

Imagine my surprise to see a pretty woman in my dorm room. I was under the impression that dorm rooms are gender exclusive, so I was really surprised to find out that they put a woman in our room. My other dorm mates were all male, I hope she doesn’t mind. I learned that she was a German on on the job training in Shanghai. She was taking the weekend off before flying back to Munich. I was surprised to hear that she has an almost perfect American accent, owing to her numerous American friends, which made communication a non issue. Apparently she was already hungry, so I suddenly found myself with a new dinner buddy.

We met up with a two Canadians and a Frenchman who looks vaguely familiar. They were all very friendly and I was also glad to be speaking English in my usual manner. The German lady spoke embarrasingly good Chinese, embarrassing to me since my Chinese is horrible. She gamely ordered food from the counter occasionally asking me something which she can’t read.
