Sacrificial Hall 享殿

Sacrificial Hall 享殿 at the Confucius Forest 孔林

I have entered what is probably the most important part of the Confucius Forest. This is where a few important Kong family members are buried, including hopefully, Confucius himself. It is but little surprise that there is a sacrificial hall here off to the side of the burial grounds. The tremendous respect people have for the great teacher has given birth to a religous, or, as some may say, a way of life.

The Sacrificial Hall 享殿 is where altars are built which accepts offerings of incense. Prayers are also offered to Confucius at this hall. It is actually quite old having been built in the year 1494 during the Ming dynasty. I didn’t see whether the hall was open for visitors, since there were very few visitors, which is a surprise to me since I thought this was the most important part of the entire forest.
