Kong Ji’s Tomb 孔伋墓

Tomb of Kong Ji 孔伋墓

There was a rather prominent mound here near the sacrificial hall and I thought it had to be Confucius’ tomb, only that it wasn’t. The thing here is that almost if not all of the people buried here in the Confucius Forest are all buried in the same way, that is by mounds. They look like tiny round hills or soil and nothing more. Over the ages, the grass has grown over them and sometimes making them unrecognizable. The tomb here is the tomb of Kong Ji’s who is Confucius’ grandson.

Kong Ji 孔伋 was given the name Zisi 子思 is recognized as one of the foremost authorities in Confucianism. He is supposedly the teacher of Mencius 孟子 who is only second to Confucius. For someone this important, the mound seems a little underwhelming. This is perhaps in line with the Confucius school of thought. He does, however, have a prominent place in the forest since I was able to find it so fast. A stele and some statue are all that marks this tomb.
