I was very excited to see a grand structure like the Arena di Verona here at the Piazza Bra in the old city center of Verona. I have been to several ancient Roman amphitheaters I know the intact ones mostly tend to look alike. The one here in Verona is the result of centuries of careful preservation that it is one of the best preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. Although it isn’t the largest one, it certainly feels very large. Naturally, I wanted to get in to have a look at the amphitheater. There is a long queue outside to get in the arena. I was a bit discouraged by the line but then I saw a sign to go to a website to purchase tickets, which I did.

Within a few minutes, I got my ticket and I soon beat everybody else in the queue to get in the arena. Of course, I was a little smug to get ahead of everybody, but I wondered why no one else was doing it and they instead were waiting patiently to purchase tickets. Either way, I was soon on my way in the amphitheater. On the way in, I can see the basic structure of the amphitheater. I was walking through a passageway which feels like I was going to a gladiator match. Those were the types of entertainment that was common back then. You can think of them as the equivalent of modern day spectator sports. Some of them even sell merchandise of whoever was popular back then. This was all almost two thousand years ago. I guess some things never change.
