I was spending the rest of the afternoon at the old town of Vicenza just going through the structures which Andrea Palladio designed. These were included in the UNESCO World Heritage list and they were in various levels of awesomeness. Some of the structures were very impressive, while others were rather uninspiring. I guess it depends how much money they gave Andrea Palladio. Of course, I don’t expect all of this designs too look alike but some were just more impressive than others. I head back to the old city center to continue my checklist.

Perhaps it should not come as a surprise to anyone that Vicenza has a cathedral. Vicenza Cathedral or Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata was not designed by Andrea Palladio, at least not all of it, or even majority of it. What is attributed to him is the dome of the cathedral. As you might expect, the dome of the cathedral is at the top of the cathedral and thus very hard to see from the ground level. I was there at the foot of the dome and I couldn’t even see the top. One would need to walk further away to see the dome. And what did I see? It was a plain dome in contrast to the rest of the tower. I was actually expecting something more elaborate since this was a church but I was surprised to see something plain. The dome tops the church and there is a small cupola topping the dome itself. It was hard to see since the tower was quite high.
