It appears that I arrived in the city of Vicenza a little too early in the morning. I took a short train ride from nearby Padova to Vicenza. I was thinking of dropping my bags at the hotel where I would be spending the night in but, to my consternation, the front door didn’t seem to be open. I’m pretty sure I got the address right. Maybe I really was that early and they open later in the day. Though I have never seen a hotel operate this way. Fortunately, my bags weren’t that heavy that it would be difficult to move around. I decided to start my visit of the city which both my bags in tow. I aren’t really following the map, but somehow the road naturally led me to the city center.

There is a large square here which is flanked by several historical buildings. I don’t know any of them yet but one of them seemed to be quite prominent and in fact, rather familiar. The Basilica Palladiana is probably the most impressive of the buildings here in the square. At the same time it is very familiar because of I just visited a similar looking structure in Padova. This should not be a surprise because the Basilica Palladiana actually inspired the Palazzo Ragione in Padova. The loggia of the Basilica Palladiana is the most distinctive feature of the basilica and it is the same loggia which was copied the Palazzo Ragione.
