The rain that afternoon was heavy. I can’t take photos properly. My lens was all wet and lighting was horrible. I should feel terrible but it is hard to be feel terrible when surrounded by the grandeur that is the Cappella degli Scrovegni or Scrovegni Chapel which is one of the most beautiful chapels that I have been too. The walls of the chapels are covered by magnificent frescoes most of which tell stories from the Bible. I would be familiar with some of the stories depicted in the frescoes while there would be others which I won’t have a clue at all. There are too many of these panels and too little time allocated for the visit that it would be difficult to study them in such a short period.

In contrast to the colorful frescoes of which adorn the walls of the chapel, the ceiling of the chapel is relatively bare in comparison. The ceiling is blue because it depicts the sky. There are standalone images of the most important figures in the Bible. I don’t know the significance of the layout of the images but it feels like they appear more like planets in the sky amid the background of stars in the ceiling. I realize that painting on the ceiling is way more difficult which could account for why the ceiling is less colorful compared to the rest of the chapel. Whatever reason there was for this, I think it provides a nice contrast to the very colorful walls.
