For a cathedral, I didn’t think that the Padova Cathedral was that interesting. I know that its root go back centuries but I think that perhaps they maintained the church a bit too well that it doesn’t look that old anymore. I know it sounds weird since it sounds like I am condemning them for doing a good job but I just feel that some of the wonder is lost when it feels too new. I got out of the cathedral and had a look at what I feel is one of the older features of the cathedral and that it the outside. The facade of the cathedral is covered in bricks and it is not unlike how the Basilica of Saint Anthony of Padua looks like. I do not know if there was an outer layer previous to this but I just think that it feels like there is something missing.

To the right of the main cathedral building is a baptistery which apparently is quite important and I totally missed going there. Apparently, there is an amazing fresco cycle there which seems to be worth visiting and it was a shame that I didn’t get to see it. It should be obvious that the basilica is an active and working church and I probably shouldn’t be expecting any signs here which cater to tourists. I think I should have done a little more research instead so I know what I should be looking out for. I prefer that I would discover things when I visit place rather than ticking boxes off but this is the result of going by feel and not knowing what I was there for. In true sour grapes fashion, I would console myself and think that the fresco cycles in the baptistry isn’t included in the world heritage site listing, so it can’t be that great.
